Written by our EFT therapist, Kelsey:
"Firstly, I always like to start by letting clients know that EFT is an evidence-based therapy with a high success rate that is based on attachment science. Research often demonstrates that key conflict in marital distress is insecurity of the bond. This chronic conflict is often a representation of loneliness and disconnection.
Therefore, in EFT we do not focus on power and control and negotiation skills, instead, we aim to create connection and a strong bond. Within a securely attached relationship, couples are able to feel safe, and have a strong emotional connection leading to better intimacy. We do this by taking apart a couple’s negative pattern of interaction. What does this mean? Think of it like a dance - have you ever noticed when you take one step in an argument your partners always seem
to take another, and it goes back and forth, often exhausting? Well, that’s your dance, or your negative interactional pattern. In EFT, we slow your dance down, we take this apart, and learn better ways of interacting. We eliminate blame, look at how you cope with fear and stress, and also how you reach out for connection in your relationship.
Working with an EFT therapist can be a part of any stage in your relationship; after betrayal, during conflict, or creating stronger resilience."
