Alison Petten, co-owner of The Calm Place, is a Registered Psychologist. She is specialized in treating PTSD and trauma related issues, with special interest in attachment, stress, and developmental trauma. Alison is trained in Deep Brain Reorienting, IFS-informed, EMDR-certified, and integrates these models with other trauma-informed techniques from relevant therapies including Cognitive-Behavioural and Psychodynamic. She places importance on a person’s story and development, believing that our current tendencies and feelings are a reflection of what has happened to us. Alison is also often drawn to implementing mindfulness and regulation techniques in therapy based on the neurobiological understanding that if we have a calm nervous system, we can make the most insights and have effective change. Nikita is a Registered Psychologist and holds a Master of Counselling Psychology. She is currently accepting adolescent and adult clients. Therapeutically, she takes an eclectic approach using skills and techniques from a wide-range of interventions including but not limited to: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Client Centered Therapy, and mindfulness. When starting with new clients, a flexible treatment plan is designed to focus around the specific goals and needs of each client. Nikita places emphasis on the foundations of physical and mental wellness to broadly explore the status of each client's needs. Stephanie believes that the success of therapy is built upon establishment of a safe and meaningful relationship between client and therapist. Her approach to therapy is collaborative and she works alongside clients to develop a treatment plan that feels aligned to her clients individual characteristics and challenges.
Stephanie believes in supporting individuals to identify and acknowledge their own patterns of behaviour; examining where they may have developed and whether or not they are serving a client well in the present context. As we better understand how our collective life experiences create the lens in which we view the world, we can begin to foster a perspective that supports our future goals for wellness. Stephanie seeks to help a client harness their own innate strength and resiliency and guides clients toward creating the life they want to live.
In her role at the clinic Stephanie works with adults navigating such challenges as Trauma/PTSD, depression, anxiety, life transitions, stress management, parenting (especially as it relates to challenging behaviour and/or anxiety in children), as well as other concerns. Stephanie is available to complete adult ADHD assessments and has experience working with adults with ADHD to understand and utilize their unique strengths as well as promote neuro-affirming strategies to address their needs.

Nicole Furey is a Registered Social Worker with over ten years experience working in health care and mental health. She is currently accepting adolescent and adult clients. While completing her Masters of Social Work degree at the University of Toronto, Nicole trained at the University Health Network, where she later worked in the areas of Oncology, Emergency Medicine, mental health, brain injury, and Intensive Care. Nicole believes all humans deserve internal peace and a strong support system. Nicole draws on several approaches when working with her clients, including but not limited to Deep Brain Reorienting, CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and narrative theory. Nicole's practice approach is calm, welcoming, anti-oppressive, trauma informed, and anti-racist. Nicole is passionate about creating a safe space for all of her clients. Cassie resides on traditional, ancestral, and unceded land of the Mi’kmaq and Beothuk, which is now commonly known as Newfoundland. She recognizes the present systemic inequities that are the result of colonization and is invested in working together towards truth and reconciliation, which includes, but is not limited to, the affirmation of Indigenous knowledge, the celebration of Indigenous culture, and the elevation of Indigenous voices.
Cassie is a registered social worker in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Inspired by a family history in the social work profession and the children and youth she worked with as a child and youth care worker, she received her Bachelor of Social Work from MUN in 2017. Cassie received her Master of Social Work from Dalhousie University in 2022. Cassie spent over five years working with mental health and addictions in the public sector in both Alberta and Nova Scotia. She occupied roles that provided both therapeutic support and clinical intervention.
Cassie has received training in EMDR for traumatic processing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), and Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT). Cassie has also received training in the delivery of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) skills, Trauma-Informed Interventions, and Play-Based Interventions.

Jacqueline is a Registered Social Worker who has extensive experience working with individuals, couples, parents, families, and groups facing diverse issues including but not limited to anxiety, stress, conflict, depression, bereavement, burnout, relationship & family dynamics, self-esteem, military life, and life transitions.
Jacqueline utilizes a proven integrated approach that incorporates cognitive behavioural (CBT), dialectical behaviour (DBT), strength based, solution focused, change management, motivational, and problem-solving theory, and strategies to provide psychotherapy and interventions that are client centered and promote empowerment. She has experience in geriatrics and enjoys working with seniors and helping with aging-related issues. Jacqueline has facilitated grief and loss, and bereavement groups. She has facilitated groups for children involving issues related to military deployment, divorce, and home alone safety.

Wendy Maidment is a registered social worker who obtained a Bachelor of Social Work in 2015 and a Master of Social Work in 2024 from Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN). During her BSW, Wendy completed clinical placements with Janeway Outpatient Psychiatry and the Bridges Program at Eastern Health and Ruah Counselling Centre, a non-profit community counselling agency, during her MSW.
Wendy began her social work career as a social worker with the Department of Children, Seniors, and Social Development (CSSD), where she spent several years working with children, youth, and their families, providing services and support through the Protective Intervention, In-Care, Adoptions, and Youth Services programs. Wendy then worked with the Association for New Canadians (ANC) as a Social Work Coordinator and Manager of Settlement Services, where she provided individual and group support to newcomers and completed training in immigrant and refugee mental health.
Wendy has completed training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy for traumatic processing and recently completed Levels 1 and 2 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. Mary-Beth Fallon is a registered social worker with over 20 years of experience in therapeutic intervention and program development for children, youth, and families. She specializes in mental health, complex mental illness, addiction, trauma, and crisis intervention.
Mary-Beth holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Social Work, and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Women's Studies. She is trained in remote therapeutic interventions and certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Therapy, Trauma-Informed Practice, Violence Threat Assessment, and Critical Incident Stress Debriefing. Additionally, she is a Registered Trainer in ASIST and has specialized training in youth suicide intervention.

Samantha Freake is a registered social worker, who received her education from Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN).
Samantha began her career working in an emergency shelter and supportive housing unit. She then spent several years employed as a frontline social worker in the public sector, working with children and families in urban, rural, and Indigenous communities. Samantha currently manages a foster care placement assessment program serving the province of NL.
Samantha has experience working with diverse populations. She has interests and experience in the areas of women’s health, perinatal health, intergenerational trauma, adult ADHD, adverse childhood experiences, and regulating the central nervous system.
Samantha strives to create a safe, open, and collaborative environment for healing and understanding. She has a passion for ensuring individuals feel heard and supported while working together to discover strength and empowerment.

Jenna Kean, co-owner of The Calm Place, is a Canadian Certified Counsellor with a passion for continued education around mental health and wellness. Her aim is to create a safe space where individuals can learn how to strengthen coping skills, address daily stressors, and learn how to develop and practice healthy coping patterns. Jenna has experience working with individuals in the areas of depression, anxiety, anger, parenting, stress management, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and self-esteem. Moreover, she has considerable experience working with individuals experiencing suicidal ideations. Jenna generally works from a Cognitive-Behavioural-Therapy approach, however, she believes it is important to remain client-centred and adapt from other treatment modalities when necessary i.e. Mindfulness, Solution-Focused, etc.

Leanne Rossiter is a Canadian Certified Counsellor and secondary educator who holds a master degree in Counselling Psychology. Leanne’s counselling approach is integrative and balanced; focus is placed on cognitive, emotional and physical well-being. Leanne works within the context of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy. Challaina has extensive with individuals of various ages who are experiencing a range of mental health concerns and life challenges. She has experience with child development and supporting parents and their children through challenging life events. She believes that there is no "one size fits all" approach to mental health; instead, she takes on an eclectic and integrative approach to counselling and chooses to meet the client where they are in their journey. Challaina draws from a variety of counselling approaches such as EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Polyvagal Theory and Art Therapy. Michelle Noftall is a Canadian Certified Counsellor with a strong belief that we all have the potential to cope and grow through change and challenges that deepen our understanding of ourselves, each other, and life itself. Kelsey takes a holistic, biopsychosocial approach to working with her clients, as what brings us to therapy exists within all aspects of our lives. She applies theoretical approaches such as client-centered, attachment-based, emotionally focused therapy (EFT), cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and solution-focused therapies, and components of mindfulness.
After transitioning from a previous background in nutrition, Kelsey completed a Master of Counselling Psychology, and a year-long focused practicum in Couples Counselling and Relationship Counselling. She has specialized training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) - which is a gold standard of treatment when it comes to working with couples and focuses on decreasing relationship distress and creating strong bonds.

Kayla James is a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with a master’s degree in counselling psychology from Yorkville University. As an empath and long-time helper, Kayla has worked with children and families in many different capacities over the years, including supporting children with complex needs and early childhood intervention.
In the last year, Kayla has been a peer supporter with Postpartum Support International (PSI), supporting birther’s virtually across Canada and the United States in various topics including postpartum anxiety and depression, abortion, miscarriage and changing family dynamics.
Kayla’s interest in the perinatal and postpartum period began through her personal journey to motherhood. To support this population, Kayla has certification in Birth and Reproductive Trauma from CPMHT and is working towards her Perinatal Mental Health certificate from PSI, as well as EMDR certification in 2025.

Rose provides a kind, compassionate, non-judgemental healing space using the highly sought after IFS approach. Working with the clients internal systems is a non-patholigizing way to address specific issues they are dealing with as well as the more subtle ways trauma shows up in their lives and relationships. This can help to improve general emotional and mental well being or address more specific concerns such as depression, anxiety and PTSD. Through years working as a massage therapist, Rose watched clients struggle with chronic pain, stress and anxiety. Because of this experience it is important to her to honour the connection between mind and body to process and resolve emotional health concerns. By including the Somatic IFS model she works with the client’s physical symptoms to investigate how they relate to past and present experiences. Emily holds a Master of Science in Mindfulness-Based Interventions (Psychology) from University College Dublin. She has extensive experience teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction to diverse populations and a stellar reputation of creating an inviting, engaging, and safe learning environment for her clients. Her work is rooted in compassion and in the passionate conviction that each human being has the capacity to reach their full potential. Connecting with her clients and sharing their ‘human-ness’ together is the magic that supports them both! She is completing an accreditation in Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness through David Treleaven (TSM) and is member of the Mindfulness Teachers Association of Ireland (MTAI) where she regularly attends meditation retreats, teacher trainings, and supervision. Through learning evidence-based mindfulness exercises, clients learn how to re-wire their brain, change their inner dialogue, and create more space in their lives.
