Also known as floatation therapy, REST (Restricted Environmental Stimulation Technique), or sensory reduction therapy, floating involves effortlessly resting in a specially designed float pool filled with warm water and approximately 1,000 pounds of pharmaceutical-grade Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate).
The high salt concentration allows your body to float effortlessly on the surface, eliminating the need to fight gravity. The water is maintained at skin temperature, making it difficult to distinguish where your body ends and the water begins. Combined with a quiet, private environment and the option of complete darkness, these conditions significantly reduce external sensory input, allowing your mind and body to deeply relax.
During your float, the constant demands of the outside world fade away. Without the usual stimulation from light, sound, and gravity, your nervous system has an opportunity to slow down and reset. Many people describe floating as one of the most restorative experiences they've ever had, reporting profound relaxation, reduced stress, mental clarity, enhanced creativity, and an overall sense of wellbeing.
Research suggests that floatation therapy may help reduce stress and anxiety, support nervous system regulation, ease muscle tension and chronic pain, improve sleep, and promote mindfulness and emotional wellbeing. Whether you're seeking relief from a busy mind, physical recovery, or simply an hour of uninterrupted rest, float therapy offers a unique opportunity to reconnect with yourself in a calm, supportive environment.

As we launch our float therapy program, we are starting with one simple option: our Calm Float. We wanted to make it easy for everyone to experience the incredible benefits of floating while we continue to grow.
Be sure to check back as we expand our offerings to include memberships, multi-float packages, and integrated wellness experiences that combine floating with complementary services such as Reiki, hypnotherapy, acupuncture, and other therapeutic offerings.
Please reach us at float@calmplace.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Research has shown that float therapy may help:
While everyone's experience is unique, many people leave feeling deeply rested, mentally clear, and physically refreshed.
Float therapy is suitable for most healthy adults and can benefit anyone looking to reduce stress, improve relaxation, or simply take time to disconnect from the demands of daily life.
If you have any medical conditions or concerns, we encourage you to speak with your healthcare provider before booking.
When you arrive, we'll show you around, explain everything you need to know, and answer any questions.
You'll then have your own private float room where you'll:
There's no right or wrong way to float. Your only job is to relax.
Just yourself!
We provide:
Most people float without clothing, as it allows the water to contact your skin comfortably and avoids the sensation of wet fabric.
However, this is your private room. If you prefer to wear a swimsuit, you're welcome to do so.
Probably not.
Unlike enclosed float pods, our open float pool offers a spacious environment with plenty of room to move. Many guests who are uncomfortable with enclosed spaces find our open design much more relaxing.
That's perfectly okay.
The high salt concentration naturally keeps your body floating, and many people drift into a deeply relaxed state. Even if you doze off, you'll continue floating safely.
That's completely normal.
Many people notice their minds remain busy at first. As your body relaxes, your thoughts often begin to slow naturally. There is no expectation that you "clear your mind."
Our standard float session is approximately 60 minutes in the water, with additional time before and after your session to shower and get settled.
We recommend:
Your intake form is required before your first float.
It includes important health information, informed consent, etc. Completing your form ahead of time also allows us to ensure floating is appropriate for you and helps your appointment begin smoothly.
Failure to complete your intake form prior to your appointment may result in your session being cancelled.
Many pregnant individuals find floating incredibly comfortable, particularly during the second and third trimesters.
However, we recommend discussing float therapy with your physician or healthcare provider before booking.
Yes.
As long as you're comfortable using appropriate menstrual products (such as a tampon or menstrual cup), floating is perfectly acceptable.
Small cuts may sting slightly due to the salt water.
We provide petroleum jelly that can be applied to minor cuts before entering the pool.
If you have significant open wounds, we recommend waiting until they have healed.
Freshly shaved skin can become irritated by the salt water.
We recommend avoiding shaving or waxing on the day of your appointment.
It can sting, but it's harmless.
Fresh water is available inside the room to rinse your eyes immediately.
Cleanliness is one of our highest priorities.
Between every guest, the water is filtered and sanitized using professional-grade filtration and disinfection systems. Water chemistry is carefully monitored and tested to maintain a clean, safe environment that meets health and safety standards.
Many people with anxiety find floating extremely calming.
Because our float room is open and private, you remain in complete control of the experience. You can leave the door open, turn on the light, exit whenever you wish, or finish early if needed.
There is never any pressure.
Many individuals living with trauma find floating supportive because it encourages deep nervous system relaxation.
However, everyone's experience is different. At The Calm Place, we recognize that stillness can feel restorative for some and activating for others.
Our trauma-informed team is happy to answer questions beforehand so you can decide whether floating feels like the right fit for you.
Float therapy is intended to complement—not replace—mental health treatment.
Yes!
As we launch Calm Waters, we're beginning with individual float sessions.
Be sure to check back as we'll be introducing memberships, multi-float packages, and integrated wellness experiences that combine floating with services such as psychotherapy, Reiki, acupuncture, hypnotherapy, and other complementary approaches.
Take your time.
Many guests notice they feel calm, grounded, and deeply relaxed afterward. We encourage you to drink water, avoid rushing back into a busy schedule if possible, and allow yourself time to enjoy the benefits of the experience.
