Alison Petten, Director

Alison is the Founder and Director of The Calm Place, a therapy clinic she opened in 2021 with a vision of making care more accessible, inclusive, and trauma informed. Living with a physical disability, she understands how inaccessible environments can create barriers to support and has built The Calm Place around accessibility, safety, and nervous system awareness.


Alison is a Registered Psychologist specializing in trauma, PTSD, attachment injuries, developmental trauma, and chronic stress. She is trained in Deep Brain Reorienting, EMDR certified, and integrates IFS informed, Cognitive Behavioural, and Psychodynamic approaches. She is passionate about fostering collaborative, holistic care and believes healing is supported through safety, dignity, connection, and choice.

Alison Petten, Director

Nicole Furey is a Registered Social Worker and Director at The Calm Place. Since joining the clinic in 2021, she has been dedicated to its mission of providing accessible, trauma-informed care. With over a decade of experience in health care and mental health, Nicole has a particular passion for supporting neurodivergent individuals and those healing from attachment-based trauma.


As a two-time cancer survivor, she brings both clinical expertise and lived experience to her work. Nicole practices from a relational approach and is trained in Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), integrating CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and narrative therapy. She is committed to creating a therapeutic space grounded in safety, collaboration, authenticity, and respect, where clients feel understood and supported in meaningful change.

Brianne George, Clinic Manager

Brianne is the Clinic Manager at The Calm Place and often the friendly face and calming presence behind the scenes. Passionate about mental health and wellness, Brianne is dedicated to making sure clients feel welcomed, heard, and supported throughout their journey. Brianne plays a key role in thoughtfully matching clients with therapists who best meet their needs. With a deep understanding of the Centre’s clinicians and services, Brianne helps ensure each client is connected with the right support from the very first step.


From coordinating schedules to supporting the clinical team, Brianne helps ensure the Centre runs smoothly so clinicians can focus on what matters most—client care. Their thoughtful approach and attention to detail help create the calm, safe, and inclusive space The Calm Place is known for.

Maria Hillier, Studio Manager

Brianne George, Clinic Manager

Maria Hillier is the Studio Manager at The Calm Place and a Certified Yoga Therapist who has been teaching since 2017. She brings a calm, caring presence to the studio and supports the day-to-day flow of the space with warmth, attentiveness, and a strong commitment to community.


Maria has extensive training in Yoga Therapy, Yin, Restorative Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Chair Yoga, Yoga for Cancer Care, and Pain Care Yoga. Her approach is evidence-informed, trauma-aware, and grounded in accessibility, self-compassion, and nervous system awareness. She works collaboratively with instructors to create intentional and inclusive programming, fostering a welcoming space where attendees can reconnect with themselves and move toward healing at their own pace.

Ashley MacLellan, Marketing and Communications Manager

Ashley MacLellan is the Marketing & Communications Manager at The Calm Place, where she brings thoughtful strategy and heartfelt storytelling together in support of healing and connection. Guided by intention and authenticity, Ashley approaches her work the same way The Calm Place approaches wellness — with care, clarity, and purpose.


She believes marketing is more than promotion; it’s about creating genuine connections and amplifying voices in a way that feels aligned and true. Her passion for helping brands communicate with integrity allows The Calm Place’s message of restoration and balance to reach those who need it most.


Outside of work, Ashley enjoys slowing down and recharging at home with her pug, Touton — embracing the same sense of calm she helps cultivate every day.
